Together There Is Enough
Life is unpredictable. Any of us can be hit by a crisis at any time.
These unexpected events can come with serious financial impacts. At times like these we often need the kindness of our friends and family to get us through.
But what about those whose lives are more isolated? What about those who are one step removed from the social networks in which support and resources can be found? That’s where the scruffy vicar fund comes in.
There are two ways you can join the Scruffy Vicar Fund.
Firstly, you can donate money and just receive updates on how the money is being spent
You can join The Scruffy Vicar Fund Group. The group involves individuals giving regularly into the common fund. As the fund grows outgoing gifts can be released, being directed to people in need that the group members identify and have a relationship with. Any group member has the opportunity to request that some of the money in the fund be released to meet a particular need. All group members receive details of the request for discussion and voting. The group is fully democratic, and nobody gets a bigger say than anyone else. The Scruffy Vicar Fund uses the Common Change giving platform which makes it easy to see the common fund growing, with a clever app through which you can discuss the needs that you’d like to support. We are aiming to raise £400 a month.
The fund is called the Scruffy Vicar Fund after a good friend of mine Rev Andy Mason (aka the scruffy vicar) who died earlier this year and wrote before he died that he wanted the money from his funeral to be given to me. £3,000 which we will start the fund with. He was only 44 when he died and was known to care for everyone especially giving of his time and resources for those who were marginalised. I know this is something he would have loved.
Please check out the website https://donorbox.org/the-scruffy-vica-fund-cumbria and then it would be great if you can send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information and to let me know your interest in joining. Really appreciate you looking at this opportunity to start meeting small needs, initially in Carlisle and Penrith, together.
